Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends the Three Rivers Center for Independent Living for consistently working to strengthen the rights and voices of people with disabilities; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh declares July 26, 2005 "Disability Pride in Youth Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Three Rivers Center for Independent Living is a non-profit organization run by people with disabilities and dedicated to advancing people with disabilities; and
 
WHEREAS, the Three Rivers Center for Independent Living was founded in 1980 to empower people with disabilities to enjoy self-directed, personally meaningful lives by providing outstanding consumer controlled services and by advocating for effective community change; and
 
WHEREAS; the Three Rivers Center for Independent Living commemorates the 15th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by holding a series of events in downtown Pittsburgh to heighten awareness of the attitudinal, physical and systemic barriers that exist for people with disabilities; and
 
WHEREAS, the Three Rivers Center for Independent Living addresses the needs of all people with all disabilities and this year recognizes the power of youth with disabilities to contribute broadly to our community.
