Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends Mr. German Matos and the members of Coro Latinoamericano–Pittsburgh for their talents and love of singing, music and camaraderie, and wishes Coro Latinoamerican -Pittsburgh continued success in choral performance. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the 20th day of December 2004, be hereby declared "Coro Latinoamericano Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh-based multi-national choral group Coro Latinoamerica– Pittsburgh (the Latin American Choir of Pittsburgh), is celebrating its seventh consecutive season as one of only 12 Latin American choirs of its kind in the United States; and

WHEREAS, this choir has successfully sought to preserve the choral music of Latin America, to maintain Latin American traditions, and to contribute to the enrichment of community life in Pittsburgh by "building bridges among the Americas"; and

WHEREAS, the Executive Committee of Coro Latinoamericano–Pittsburgh boasts such committed professionals as German Matos, president, Coro Latinoamericano, faculty member, University of Pittsburgh and chair, Spanish Department, Point Park University; Irene Matos, social worker, Department of Health, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; Victor Beltran, architectural illustrator, LDA Architects; Walter Acevedo, representative, art Institute of Pittsburgh; Melissa Allister, manager, International Sales at Ardex Engineered Cements; Ivonne Beltran, graduate student and representative, Point Park University; Coro Latinoamericano Musical Director Enrique Bernardo, pianist and graduate student of music, Carnegie Mellon University; and Michele Rothert, president, Esteta Communications, among others of both Latin American and North American heritage; and

WHEREAS, a holiday concert was held on the 18th of December 2004, which included musical performances and the presentation of the annual Corola Awards, initiated in 2002 by Coro Latinoamericano, to honor outstanding individuals who have contributed to the cultural enrichment and well being of the Pittsburgh community; and

WHEREAS, through their performance and travels, the members of Coro Latinoamericano-Pittsburgh have served as goodwill ambassadors for the United States, Pennsylvania, the City of Pittsburgh, its history, and its people, as demonstrated by participation at the Canta...
