WHEREAS, the University of Pittsburgh is one of the most respected institutions of higher learning in the United States and has provide an education to many of our regions workers and families; and,
WHEREAS, its athletic squads, especially its football team, has brought both pride and respect to the University and the City of Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the 2004 University of Pittsburgh Football Team in Producing a record of 8 wins and 3 losses, resulting in the Co-Championship of the Big East Conference and an invitation to play in the Fiesta Bowl, one of the four major bowls compromising the Bowl Championship Series (BCS), merits the recognition and gratitude of the City of Pittsburgh, its citizens, and its leadership; and,
WHEREAS, Walt Harris, in his capacity as Head Football Coach of the team has been instrumental in the team's success during his tenure at the University of Pittsburgh, through his diligence, loyalty and coaching skills; and,
WHEREAS, these qualities have been the major force in restoring the University of Pittsburgh's football team to its traditional place of prominence in college football.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby recognizes the accomplishments of Head Coach Walt Harris concerning the success of the 2004 University of Pittsburgh Football Team; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh honors these accomplishments of Head Coach Walt Harris, that have brought pride and excitement to our city by declaring Monday, December 20, 2004 as "Walt Harris Day" here in the City of Pittsburgh.
