WHEREAS, the University of Pittsburgh is one of the most respected institutions of higher learning in the United States and has provided an education to many of our regions workers and families; and,
WHEREAS, its athletic squads, especially its football team, has brought both pride and respect to the University and the city of Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the 2004 University of Pittsburgh Football Team in producing a record 8 wins abs 3 losses, resulting in the Co-Championship of the Big East Conference and an invitation to play in the Fiesta Bowl, one of the four major bowls in the Bowl Championship Series (BCS), merits the recognition and gratitude of the City of Pittsburgh, its citizens, and its leadership.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the 2004 University of Pittsburgh Football team in being named Co-Champions of the Big East Conference and being invited to the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) through their participation in the Fiesta Bowl on January 1, 2005; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday December 20, 2004 to be "University of Pittsburgh Panthers Day" here in the City of Pittsburgh.
