Whereas, National Philanthropy Day will be observed on Thursday, November 18, 2004; and
Whereas, there are more than 350,000 nonprofit philanthropic organizations in Pennsylvania that are largely responsible for enhancing the quality of life for our State and County citizens and others throughout our country and world ; and
Whereas, the people of the City of Pittsburgh owe a great debt to the schools, religious organizations, museums, art and music centers, youth groups, health and guman services, research institutions and organizations that aid and comfort the elderly, the disadvantaged and the sick; and
Whereas, the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Western Pennsylvavia Chapter plans to honor the following persons: Phillip Chosky as Outstanding Philanthropist; Susan L. Franklin as Outstanding Volunteer Fund Raiser; Phi Theta Phi at Thief College and Rotary Club of Latrobe as Outstanding Philanthropic Organization; PPG Industries Foundation as Outstanding Youth Award; and James D. Bendel, EVP, Adelphoi USA as Outstanding Fund Raising Executive

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does hereby declare Tuesday, November 1, 2004, as "National Philanthropy Day" and we urge the citizens of the City of Pittsburgh to join in supporting those philanthropic organizations that help to make life in the City of Pittsburgh better for everyone.
