Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends and congratulates the Pittsburgh Tissue Engineering Initiative on its work in modern medicine for the benefit of the health and wellness of society. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that October 26, 2004 be hereby declared "Pittsburgh Tissue Engineering Initiative Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine areis at the forefront of modern medicine; and
Since its inception in 1996, Pittsburgh Tissue Engineering Initiative (PTEI) has championed research, new education and training programs, collaboration and information sharing to propel this important field of study forward; and

WHEREAS, the mission of the Pittsburgh Tissue Engineering Initiative (PTEI) PTEI is to improve the health of individuals by establishing the Pittsburgh region as an internationally recognized center of excellence in research, education, and commercial development for the advancement of tissue-related medical therapies, including cancer stem cell therapy; and

WHEREAS, PTEI and its academic partner institutions – Allegheny General Hospital, Carnegie Mellon University, Duquesne University, the University of Pittsburgh McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and the Windber Research Institute, champion research, education and training programs, collaboration and information sharing to propel this important field of study forward; and

WHEREAS, PTEI promotes interest in science by introducing all learners to the field of tissue engineering and the promises of biomedicine. so that, Wworking with a highly skilled workforce, new scientific breakthroughs may beare discovered, thus improving the quality of life and health of us all; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of its work and advancements in scientific research, the U.S. Ccongress established the National Tissue Engineering Center and selected PTEI to administer it for the design and delivery of regenerative tissue engineering therapies to the Department of Defense and to assist in the development of a national tissue engineering strategy.
