Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh would like to thank Father Joe for his service not only to St. Raphael Parish, but to the community of Morningside and to the City of Pittsburgh. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh wishes the Rev. Joseph V. Kurutz good wishes for a happy, healthy retirement and hereby declares March 30, 2004 at "Father Joe Kurutz Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Rev. Joseph V. Kurutz will retire from St. Raphael Parish, 1118 Chislett Street, in the Morningside section of the City of Pittsburgh on March 30, 2004; and
 
WHEREAS, Father Joe, as he is lovingly known, has faithfully served the parishioners and school children of St. Raphael Parish for twenty-six years as pastor, administrator and friend to all; and
 
WHEREAS, Father Joe was born in Homestead, Pennsylvania on September 23, 1933, attended St. Ann/St. Mary Elementary School and St. Fidelis High School; received his Licentiate in Sacred Theology from St. Mary's Seminary and University in Baltimore, Maryland; and received his Master of Education from Duquesne University in 1965; and
      
WHEREAS, Father Joe was ordained on May 30, 1959 by Bishop Wright at St. Paul Cathedral in Pittsburgh; and
 
WHEREAS, prior to his assignment at St. Raphael Parish, Father Joe served as Parochial Vicar at both St. Joan of Arc Parish in South Park from 1959 to 1963, and at St. Anselm in Swissvale from 1963 to 1967; as Administrator at St. Michael Parish in New Castle; and as Headmaster at Lawrenceville Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, from 1970 to 1978; and
 
WHEREAS, Father Joe will forever remain in the hearts of the parishioners and school children of St. Raphael who are thankful for the extraordinary and exemplary job he has performed for so many years.
