Title: WHEREAS, Carrone Baptist Church was organized in 1885 by Rev. Willis Duval of Virginia. It was first known as the Second Baptist Church of the East End. The Church reorganized in March of 1886 and changed the name to the Siloam Baptist Church; and,

WHEREAS, Carrone Baptist Church was organized in 1885 by Rev. Willis Duval of Virginia. It was first known as the Second Baptist Church of the East End. The Church reorganized in March of 1886 and changed the name to the Siloam Baptist Church; and,

WHEREAS, In 1890 a new frame was erected on Carron Street in East Liberty and the name was changed to Carron Street Baptist Church in 1891; and,

 

WHEREAS, In 1957, the church moved from Carron Street to its present location in Homewood and changed the name from Carron to Carrone. Dr. Phillips retired in 1985 after 47 years of faithful service; and,

 

WHEREAS, On January 27, 2013 Rev. Alonzo Murphy Jr. became the 12th pastor of Carrone Baptist Church. During his pastorate, the church has increased in members, and is growing spiritually. Pastor Murphy has implemented a number of ministries that include, Music Ministry, Youth Ministry, the Spiritual Doves Dance ministries just to name a few; and,   

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Carrone Baptist Church for 139 years of building a true relationship with God in order to have a positive relationship with each other in life; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, May 21, 2023, to be “Carrone Baptist Church Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
