Title: WHEREAS, Bethany Baptist Church was organized in 1897. Services were first conducted in Wilkinsburg that was called Crab Hollow; and,

WHEREAS, Bethany Baptist Church was organized in 1897. Services were first conducted in Wilkinsburg that was called Crab Hollow; and,

WHEREAS, Bethany soon bought a small frame building at 7734 Tioga Street that had been a German Lutheran Church, and construction of a new building began in 1924; and,

 

WHEREAS, Construction of the Bethany Center was completed in 2001. The Bethany Center is a multipurpose building located across the street from the church building to augment Bethany’s ministries to the community. Because of structural deficiencies, the old church was demolished in 2008. The Bethany Center thus became Bethany’s place of worship; and,

 

WHEREAS, the church took on a stewardship campaign to build a new sanctuary to connect to the Bethany Center. Now that the new sanctuary is complete, Bethany will restore the Bethany Center to its original purpose - reaching out to the Homewood community with much needed human service; and,

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Bethany Baptist Church for ministering the Gospel of Jesus Christ through Evangelism, Education, Worship, Fellowship and Equipping for Service; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, April 29, 2023, to be “Bethany Baptist Church Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
