Title: WHEREAS, Commander Cristyn Zett retired from the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police on January 13, 2023 after serving nearly 23 years with the Bureau; and,

WHEREAS, Commander Cristyn Zett retired from the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police on January 13, 2023 after serving nearly 23 years with the Bureau; and,

WHEREAS, Cristyn Zett started her career with the City of Pittsburgh Police Bureau on January 24, 2000 and became a Patrol Officer with the Bureau on October 2, 2000, assigned to Zone 1. Officer Zett has worked in Major Crimes, subsequently appointed to Detective in Missing Persons and Narcotics and Vice. She then moved up the ranks from Sergeant to Lieutenant assigned to Zone 4, and later as the Training Academy Director, where she oversaw the basic recruit training as well as in-service training for veteran officers;

 

WHEREAS, Cristyn has served in many capacities using her leadership skills and knowledge.  As a state-certified instructor, she has served on committees developing statewide training for the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission, and has served as a city-to-city liaison in exchange programs with Fort Worth, TX and Gary, IN police departments. She also served as the Bureau’s Incident Commander for the Pittsburgh Marathon. She was also appointed to the Pittsburgh’s Procedural Justice Unit, where she  helped develop and instruct implicit bias training to both officers and members of the community; and,

 

WHEREAS, after her promotion to Commander in July, 2016, she was assigned to Professional Standards, Zone 2 and finally Zone 6, West End Station, from where she retired; and,

 

WHEREAS, in 2019, she became a graduate of the FBI National Academy, session #277, with an undergraduate degree in Political Science from St. Bonaventure University. She completed a Master of Science in Law Enforcement & Public Safety Leadership from the University of San Diego in May 2022; and,

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and thank Cristyn Zett for her years of faithful service to the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Tuesday, January 31, 2023 to be “Cristyn Zett Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
