Title: WHEREAS, Conflict Resolution Day is recognized and celebrated each year on the third Thursday of October in cities, counties and more than 22 states across the United States, and at least four different countries. It is the intention of the City of Pittsburgh to increase public awareness of the many benefits of conflict resolution in our community, and to recognize organizations and citizens for their exemplary work in our community; and,

Title
WHEREAS, Conflict Resolution Day is recognized and celebrated each year on the third Thursday of October in cities, counties and more than 22 states across the United States, and at least four different countries. It is the intention of the City of Pittsburgh to increase public awareness of the many benefits of conflict resolution in our community, and to recognize organizations and citizens for their exemplary work in our community; and,

WHEREAS, the Mediation Council of Western Pennsylvania, based in the City of Pittsburgh, is an association of professional mediators whose mission is to promote the use of mediation and other collaborative processes for resolving disputes and managing conflict and support the professional development of mediation practitioners; and,

WHEREAS, the Mediation Council serves our community by providing education about mediation, information about mediator qualifications and assistance in finding qualified mediators. It serves professional mediators by providing opportunities for advanced mediation training and continuing mediation education credit, standards of practice and a code of ethics; and,

WHEREAS, the Mediation Council of Western Pennsylvania annually celebrates Conflict Resolution Day and recognizes an individual for their outstanding contributions to conflict resolution in our community with its Conflict Resolution Day Award; and,

WHEREAS, the 2022 Conflict Resolution Day Awardee is Selina J. Shultz, Executive Director of the Conflict Lab in Lawrenceville. She is recognized for her exceptional work, including cofounding Just Mediation Pittsburgh, a nonprofit dedicated to helping landlords and tenants find solutions to housing disputes, training mediators and providing local organizations with conflict resolution leadership development and conflict intervention; and,
