Title: WHEREAS, Clean Water Action (CWA) is a nationwide advocacy group dedicated to protecting our environment health, economic well-being, and community quality of life; and,

WHEREAS, Clean Water Action (CWA) is a nationwide advocacy group dedicated to protecting our environment health, economic well-being, and community quality of life; and,

WHEREAS, David Zwick, CWA's founder, played a major role in writing and passing the 1972 Clean Water Act, a landmark piece of legislation which created dramatic improvements in the health of safety of waterways across America; and,

WHEREAS, CWA organizes strong grassroots groups, coalitions, and campaigns to solve environmental issues and elect to office candidates who stand for environmental protection; and,

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh office of CWA has been a forceful voice on issues of concern and influential contributor to environmental improvement throughout the region since its opening in 1985; and,

WHEREAS, CWA has helped to advance numerous health and safety measures in Pittsburgh, including this year's ban on single-use plastic bags at checkout which will keep harmful microplastics out of our drinking water; and,

WHEREAS, CWA spurs legislative and private action to remove toxins from everyday products, protect our water from dirty energy and pollution, build a clean water and clean energy future, and strengthen our clean water laws, among other achievements; and,

WHEREAS, the 50th anniversary of CWA's founding represents an opportunity to celebrate the progress of the past half-century while also re-focusing on the necessary work that will be ahead to achieve CWA's goals of swimmable, fishable, and drinkable water for all; and,

WHEREAS, ensuring that all residents have access to clean water, a healthy environment, and a sustainable world is a shared priority for City Council, Clean Water Action, and the residents of Pittsburgh.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Pittsburgh City Council congratulates Clean Water Action on 50 years of service to our planet and all its inhabitants; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare ...
