WHEREAS, Terri Shields was born and raised in Hazelwood to Shirley Gibson and Leonard Sherrod with her two sisters, Demeatria and Nicole. She has lived in the Hazelwood neighborhood for 61 years; and
WHEREAS, Terri has three children, Darrell, Donness, and Jamell. She worked multiple jobs while raising her children in order to put herself through college. She has earned Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Carlow University, and is currently working on a Master’s Degree in Business Administration; and
WHEREAS, she has worked for UPMC for over twenty years where she began as a Community Aide and is currently a Workforce Specialist Supervisor; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Shields has dedicated her life to improving her neighborhood. In 2014, she founded JADA House International Inc., a faith-based social ministry where she is the Executive Director; and,
WHEREAS, Terri is on several Boards and Committees and has received numerous awards for her community work and work with JADA House International. She would like to see JADA House become a positive and innovative platform for the City of Pittsburgh and would love for Hazelwood to be a livable and affordable place to live; and,
WHEREAS, when she is not working for the community, Terri enjoys her twelve Grandchildren; Delrico, Danejah, Deshaey, Jikarp, Rickya, Michael, Marra, Journi, Andrea, Aram, Damarrow, and Catilino and three Great-Grandchildren; Zakami, Damara, and Ranajah; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Terri Shields in honor of Grandparent’s Day and thank her for her service to the community of Hazelwood; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Sunday, September 11, 2022 to be “Terri Shields Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
