WHEREAS, Corey O'Connor has served the neighborhoods of Squirrel Hill South, Regent Square, Swisshelm Park, Greenfield, Hazelwood, Glen Hazel, Hays, Lincoln Place, and New Homestead since 2012, when he was elected to represent Pittsburgh City Council District 5; and,

WHEREAS, during his tenure on City Council, Mr. O'Connor has had many legislative accomplishments including, but not limited to, establishing the City's HIV/AIDS Commission, creating regulations to incorporate medical marijuana zoning into the city, and passing the Paid Sick Days Act, which is the first in the State; and,
WHEREAS, most recently, after the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting in his district, Mr. O'Connor co-sponsored legislation to ban assault weapons in public places and after the Fern Hollow Bridge Collapse, Mr. O'Connor joined with Mayor Ed Gainey and council members to create legislation forming a commission to advise officials on best practices to improve and maintain Pittsburgh's infrastructure; and
WHEREAS, like his father, the late Mayor Bob O'Connor, Corey is a strong advocate of community service and was twice honored as Squirrel Hill Little League Baseball Coach of the Year and was the youngest varsity sports coach in WPIAL History. He continues to coach the Central Catholic High School Golf Team, and also serves on several local boards and commissions, including The Children's Home & Lemieux Family Center; and,
WHEREAS, his mother Judy O'Connor, and the O'Connor family continues to honor the memory of his father, through charitable acts of the Bob O'Connor Foundation such as the famous Cookie Cruise, and the St Patrick's Day Party; and,
WHEREAS, on July 10, 2022, Mr. Corey O'Connor resigned as a member of City Council and was sworn in as County Controller on Sunday, July 10 during a private ceremony.
