Resolution authorizing the Mayor and the Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation and/or the Director of the Department of Public Works to enter into a Community Partner Playground Contract with KaBOOM!, Inc. to collaborate in the construction of a new playground at West Penn Park in Polish Hill.

Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Pittsburgh as follows:

 

Section 1.                     Authorizing the Mayor and the Director of the Department of Public Works to enter into a Community Partner Playground Contract with KaBOOM!, Inc. to collaborate in the construction of a new playground at West Penn Park in Polish Hill. 

 

WHEREAS, KaBOOM!, Inc. ("KaBOOM!) is a national non-profit that seeks to create great playspaces for children by promoting community leadership and involvement; and

 

WHEREAS, KaBOOM! has offered to provide technical and organizational leadership and guidance to create a new playground in West Penn Park; and

 

WHEREAS, the City has been awarded a grant from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) in the amount of $100,000 to fund a portion of the equipment for the playground; and

 

WHEREAS, the City will also allocate funds from the Department of Public Works Play Area Improvement Capital Account to cover the cost of site work, additional play equipment, rubber surfacing and sub-base materials; and

 

WHEREAS, the City and KaBOOM!, Inc. now wish to enter into a Community Partner Playground Contract to set forth obligations regarding the playground construction. 

 

Section 2.                     The Mayor and the Director of the Department of Public Works are hereby authorized to enter into a Community Partner Playground Contract ("Contract") with KaBOOM!, Inc.  Monies for the playground construction have been previously authorized to be expended by City.
