Title: WHEREAS, Major L. Cynthia Foster Arrived at the Salvation Army Westside Pittsburgh on June 30th of 2014 from The Salvation Army in Akron, Ohio; and,

WHEREAS, Major L. Cynthia Foster Arrived at the Salvation Army Westside Pittsburgh on June 30th of 2014 from The Salvation Army in Akron, Ohio; and,

WHEREAS, Major Foster came to Pittsburgh with over 20 years' experience as a Salvation Army Officer. Major's educational background in Social Work combined with her experience in Community service and youth ministry, enabled her to immediately begin building relationships with those serving our western community; and,

WHEREAS, while at the Salvation Army Westside Pittsburgh, Major Foster has expanded their social services, and encouraged community meetings and conversations. The Salvation Army Day Camp and After School programs have been a consistent support to neighborhood families. During the COVID pandemic, they worked with the City of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh Public Schools to provide Grab-N-Go meals and become one of the very few Learning Hubs in the City of Pittsburgh; and,

WHEREAS, Major's love for young people is very evident. She continues to encourage young people to display their talents and at the Salvation Army's Music and Arts Star Search competitions and extended the Legacy of Excellence within the competition, which includes Drama, Dance, Timbrels, Brass Band, and Youth Chorus, to whom she shares her beautiful voice; and,

WHEREAS, over her 8 years here at The Salvation Army Westside Pittsburgh, she has partnered with The Pittsburgh Community Foodbank, Save A Life Today PGH, Citizens Care, CitiParks, and various other community organizations; and,

WHEREAS, Major Foster will be greatly missed and will always be remembered for her love of God and Community, and especially her famous Steeler baskets at her basket auction fundraisers; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Major Cynthia Foster for her selfless work she has done at The Pittsburgh Westside Salvation Army; and,
