Title: WHEREAS, House Bill 972, The Save Women's Sports Act, is the latest legislative attack against the LGBTQIA+ community that, if passed, would bar transgender females in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from participating in youth sports in categories that align with their gender identity; and,

WHEREAS, House Bill 972, The Save Women's Sports Act, is the latest legislative attack against the LGBTQIA+ community that, if passed, would bar transgender females in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from participating in youth sports in categories that align with their gender identity; and,

WHEREAS, Youth sports have been empirically shown to teach children accountability, dedication, and teamwork and students that participate in youth sports achieve higher both academically and professionally; and,

WHEREAS, Transgender students are entitled to every single opportunity that cisgendered students have and House Bill 972 is a cruel bully tactic, specifically on trans girls, in a sad showing of political theatre from legislators that have full knowledge of Governor Wolf's intent to veto such abhorrent legislation; and,

WHEREAS, Allowing discussion of this bill on the House Floor would inflict transgender youth to witness bigotry and hatred regarding their quality of life, as well as embolden bullies on the floor and in the media, in addition to empowering school boards to pass such laws; and,

WHEREAS, The City of Pittsburgh affirms and continues to reaffirm that trans girls are girls and trans boys are boys and in the City of Pittsburgh we uphold the right for every individual to live according to their identity; and,

WHEREAS, The City of Pittsburgh is both a city with a rich history of sports as well as a deep commitment to inclusivity and the Council of the City of Pittsburgh condemns this vitriolic and dangerous legislation that is a complete affront to Pittsburgh values; and,

WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh unapologetically condemns floor discussion of this hateful and dangerous legislation in the strongest possible terms; and,

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, The Council of the City of Pittsburgh City denounces the attempts of Pennsylvania legislators to prohibit transgender athletes from participating in sports and urges ...
