WHEREAS, Andy Henderson is a lifelong Pittsburgher; and,

WHEREAS, Mr. Henderson has worked at the Blue Moon, an LGBTQ bar which has created a safe space where all are welcome, on Butler Street in Pittsburgh’s Lawrenceville neighborhood, since 2002; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Blue Moon has received many accolades during Mr. Henderson’s tenure, including being named the top gay bar in the city for seven consecutive years, second best gay bar for the three preceding years, second best dive bar according to the Pittsburgh City Paper, Most Inclusive bar by Pittsburgh Magazine and #38 gay bar in the United States by Yelp, among others; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Henderson’s business partners Gerry Lupin and Liz Marcelano have also been instrumental in the Blue Moon’s success; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Henderson is a fervent appreciator and zealous promoter of the art of Drag; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Henderson has supported and advanced the careers of many Drag performers, including Cherri Baum, Marsha Mellows, Crystal St Clair, Ivanna Trailer, Mahogany LaPiranha, Cindy Crotchford (his best friend), Moon Baby, BeBe Beretta, Dixie Surewood, Veruca LaPiranha, Tootsie Snyder, Alora Chateaux, Scarlet Fairweather, Wanda Bread, Coco Peru, and several future RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants including Mimi Imfurst, Sharon Needles, and Alaska 5000, among others; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Henderson has been particularly inspired by Cherri Baum’s journey and is proud to witness her transformation; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Henderson has been an integral part of the Pittsburgh Drag scene, and Pittsburgh’s entertainment and nightlife as a whole.

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby honor Andy Henderson for his contributions to the local entertainment sector, the LGBTQ community, and the spirits of Pittsburghers.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare March 10, 2022 to be “Andy Henderson Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
