Title: WHEREAS, First Lady Michelle Gainey is working to support Pittsburgh's local art scene in her first community initiative "Pittsburgh Paints", allowing her also to promote one of her husband's goals of making Pittsburgh a city for all; and,

WHEREAS, First Lady Michelle Gainey is working to support Pittsburgh's local art scene in her first community initiative "Pittsburgh Paints", allowing her also to promote one of her husband's goals of making Pittsburgh a city for all; and,

WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Paints is a rotating art exhibition that uses art to celebrate the diversity within the City of Pittsburgh. Art pieces will be exhibited in the Mayor's Executive Conference Room, the Mayor's Office, and the Chief of Staff's Office; and,

WHEREAS, each month will feature a unique theme, which Michelle hopes will create opportunities to use art to bring awareness to different cultures, people, and life experiences enabling Pittsburghers to see Pittsburgh through different lenses; and,

WHEREAS, the first exhibit is in honor of Black History Month and features the work of Brandon Jennings, Ashante Josey, Marlon Gist, Douglas Webster, Irene Sparks, Kellye Jean Dawson-Young, Baba Amir Rashiid, Jamie Acie Sr, Ernest Bey, Hurley Charles Nance, and Theresa Rose Monroe; and,

WHEREAS, the annual Pittsburgh Paints calendar includes Women's History Month, Pittsburgh K-12 Student Art, Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month and Jewish American Heritage Month, LGBTQ+ Pride Month, Photography, Black Business Month + American Artists Appreciation Month, National Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Holiday Theme and a theme Inspired by the City of Pittsburgh; and,

WHEREAS, in addition to encouraging her husband, Mrs. Gainey assists single moms with education and career planning as a consultant with Catalyst Pittsburgh, a local non-profit; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend First Lady Michelle Gainey for helping to promote inclusiveness by celebrating local Pittsburgh artists; and,
