WHEREAS, Norene Beatty spent her childhood in several states including Indiana, Arizona, and Ohio. Once Norene graduated High School, she moved to the West End neighborhood of Pittsburgh, where her mother called home; and,

WHEREAS, Ms. Beatty began working at Mellon Bank and continued to work in the accounting field doing payroll for a number of companies in the Pittsburgh area; and,
WHEREAS, Norene married and lived in Elliott raising her four children and she became very involved with her children’s activities and schools; and,
WHEREAS, she volunteered as a Den Mother of Pack 87 and was a Parent Rep for Thaddeus Stevens Elementary School and Greenway Middle School. She also became a Chairperson for Langley Cluster of Schools for one term; and,
WHEREAS, Norene was President of the National Association of Neighborhood Schools for three years in the late 70’s and ran for the Pittsburgh Board of Education; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Beatty held a variety of offices in the West End Citizens Council and from 2008-2021, she is the President of the Pittsburgh Old Stone Tavern Friends Trust, Inc., a non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve the Old Stone Tavern located in the West End; and,
WHEREAS, Norene is a proud grandmother of 8 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Norene Beatty for her many years of community involvement and helping to preserve the oldest commercial building in Pittsburgh; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, February 8, 2022 to be “Norene Beatty Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
