WHEREAS, Majors Earnest and Vanessa L. Fullwood have a combined total of 44 years of ministry with The Salvation Army and will be celebrating their retirement on Saturday, February 12;

WHEREAS, prior to being involved with The Salvation Army, Major Earnest Fullwood received a degree in Criminal Justice. He served as a police officer in the United States Army and was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Major Fullwood was employed with The North Carolina Department of Corrections, The New York State Department of Corrections and The New York State Troopers; and,

 

WHEREAS, Major Vanessa Fullwood put her career on hold, to devote her time to raising their children in a Christian environment; and,

 

 WHEREAS, Majors Earnest and Vanessa Fullwood have been involved with The Salvation Army since 1996, when their children were involved with many of the programs that were offered. In August, 1998, Majors Fullwood entered The Salvation Army School for Officers Training located in Suffern, New York; and,

 

WHEREAS, in June, 2000, they were commissioned/ordained as officers/pastors. Majors Fullwood were appointed to The Salvation Army in Atlantic City, NJ., then served nine years with the Salvation Army in Pittsburgh Westside, where they have worked closely with Council President Theresa Kail Smith; and,

 

WHEREAS, after leaving Pittsburgh, Majors Fullwood served five years in Jersey City, New Jersey followed by their appointment to the Salvation Army in Greensburg, PA. Majors Fullwood are currently the Directors of The Salvation Army Family Caring Center in East Liberty; and,

 

WHEREAS, Majors Earnest & Vanessa will be living in Pittsburgh after their retirement. They have been married for 42 years and have been blessed with seven children and six grandchildren; and,

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Majors Earnest and Vanessa Fullwood for their selfless service to The Salvation Army and the City of Pittsburgh; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, February 12, 2022 to be “Majors Earnest and Vanessa Fullwood Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
