WHEREAS, Dan Rossi has dedicated more than a decade of his career to ensuring a higher standard of care for animals in the Pittsburgh region; and,

WHEREAS, His twelve years of service have resulted in the achievement of numerous milestones, inception and solidification of strategic partnerships, and a measurable increase in the visibility of the animal rights and welfare cause; and,
WHEREAS, Through his stewardship, Animal Rescue League and the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society merged to become Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh (HARP) - one of the largest animal welfare organizations in the Commonwealth; and,
WHEREAS, HARP's mission is not only to match animals with their permanent homes, but to provide low-cost veterinary care, education and training opportunities for owners and their pets, as well as assist with pet food supply; and,
WHEREAS, Not only has HARP's programming expanded under Dan's leadership, but so has its brick and mortar presence -in 2015 he lead a $15 million dollar capital campaign that culminated in the building of the Animal Resource Center located on Hamilton Ave; and,
WHEREAS, The re-envisioning of HARP's brand, the collaborations throughout the Western Pennsylvania region, and many other efforts undertaken by Dan Rossi will make a lasting impact on the region for decades to come; and,
WHEREAS, While Dan is leaving his role as CEO at HARP in Pittsburgh, he is continuing his passion for animals in California as the new Executive Director of the Palm Springs Animal Shelter; and,
WHEREAS, Currently living a bi-costal life, Dan will soon be joined by his husband Dr. Edward Garofolo, and their furry companions - Callie, Oreo, Petey, and Frickles - who will be making the cross-country drive to the west coast; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends Dan Rossi for his tireless commitment to animal welfare, celebrates his many achievements, and wishes him and his family succ...
