Ordinance to Either Consent to or Disapprove of Proposed Annexation of Wilkinsburg Borough pursuant to Petition presented in the Court of Common Pleas at Docket Number GD-21-14817.

WHEREAS, City Council has been directed pursuant to Court Order dated January 5, 2022 In Re: Proposed Annexation of Wilkinsburg by the City of Pittsburgh per case number GD-21-14817 to ether consent to or disapprove of providing the voters of the Borough of Wilkinsburg with an opportunity to conduct a referendum on the question of said annexation, and;
WHEREAS, City Council does not oppose the idea of uniting the two communities after due diligence to investigate whether or not said unification(s) are the desire of and in the best interest of the citizens of Pittsburgh, and;
WHEREAS, City Council is generally interested in investigating whether or not unification(s) with other territories would be the desire of and in the best interest of the citizens of Pittsburgh;
THEREFORE, it is ordained as follows:
BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PITTSBURGH HEREBY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
Pursuant to Court Order dated January 5, 2022 In Re: Proposed Annexation of Wilkinsburg by the City of Pittsburgh per case number GD-21-14817, and under the statutory framework provided by 53 P.S. Sections 171 et seq. (the “1903 Annexation Law), City Council for the City of Pittsburgh hereby disapproves of the Petition and disapproves of providing the voters of the Borough of Wilkinsburg with an opportunity to conduct a referendum on the question of said annexation.
