WHEREAS, the Amen Corner is a prestigious organization whose purpose is to encourage camaraderie, fraternity and relationships amongst people of all walks of life and honor those who have devoted their lives to improving our community; and,

WHEREAS, the Amen Corner has been honoring members of the Judiciary of Allegheny County and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for 50 years as well as members of the Allegheny County Bar Association; and,
WHEREAS, The 60th Annual Reception will honor Chief Justice Emeritus Thomas G. Saylor of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, as he is being awarded with the prestigious Judge Robert E. Dauer Award for Judicial Excellence by the Amen Corner for his outstanding leadership and his judicial excellence; and,
WHEREAS, Chief Justice Emeritus Saylor, a ‘69 graduate of The University of Virginia and a ’72 graduate of Columbia Law School, earned a Master of Laws from University of Virginia School of Law in 2004; and,
WHEREAS, Chief Justice Emeritus Saylor has worked as a prosecutor in Somerset County, the Director of the Pennsylvania Bureau of Consumer Protection, First Deputy Attorney General for Pennsylvania prior to his service on the Superior Court of Pennsylvania; and,
WHEREAS, Chief Justice Emeritus Saylor has been on the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania since 1997, has been Chief Justice since January 2015 and has written more than 400 main opinions. He is known for setting an example of strong, collaborative and effective leadership of an independent judiciary.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate Chief Justice Thomas G. Saylor on receiving the Judge Robert E. Dauer Award for Judicial Leadership & Excellence Award for his contributions to our community; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, December 14th 2021 to be “Chief Justice Emeritus Thomas G. Saylor” in the City of Pittsburgh.
