Title: WHEREAS, Officer John Svitek became Sergeant of Arms for City Council in December of 2018, and has since made a great impact on the public safety of city employees, and visitors to the 5th floor; and,

WHEREAS, Officer John Svitek became Sergeant of Arms for City Council in December of 2018, and has since made a great impact on the public safety of city employees, and visitors to the 5th floor; and,

WHEREAS, in addition to unfailingly maintaining and enforcing all parking needs for City Council, Officer Svitek has worked diligently with the City Clerk, city employees and an outside agency to construct a safer and more secured 5th floor area of the City- County Building; and,

 

WHEREAS, he set up a protocol for issuing new employee ID cards with security identification access to the 5th floor and implemented lock changing and door access protocols to ensure better security, limiting unauthorized access to the 5th floor; and,

 

WHEREAS, Sgt. of Arms Svitek created and maintains an updated roster card of every person and their respective office in City Council for greater accountability of all employees on the 5th floor.  He also documents and maintains information on individuals who have posed a threat to the safety of City Council and has taken and continues to take appropriate actions to ensure the safety of its members; and,

 

WHEREAS, he goes above and beyond his duties on the 5th floor by maintaining security and providing police service for all employees who work at the City-County Building during his assigned shift, along with handling any emergency 911 calls that occur inside the building. He has answered numerous mental health service calls within the building and worked with City Social Service employees to ensure the best possible outcome for the patient; and,

 

WHEREAS, Officer Svitek has built and preserves a positive work relationship with all City Council members and their staff as well as the City Clerk’s office and their Staff to ensure that he represents the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police well and provides the best support possible to the city employees he serves; and,

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commends Sergeant of Arms, Officer John Svitek, for his service to the City of Pittsburgh Employees of the 5th floor and for going above and beyond his duties for all employees of the City-County Building; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, October 26, 2021 to be “Officer John Svitek Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
