Title: WHEREAS, Volunteers who have stepped out of their familiar environments to meet needs not otherwise met through their service are a fundamental part of the community. Nabhi Christian Ministries, whose mission is to enhance impoverished communities by creating healthy environments that mentor, train and develop citizens of all ages recognizes the work and sacrifices of DIARA JACKSON with their Community "SHERO" Leadership Award; and,

WHEREAS, Volunteers who have stepped out of their familiar environments to meet needs not otherwise met through their service are a fundamental part of the community. Nabhi Christian Ministries, whose mission is to enhance impoverished communities by creating healthy environments that mentor, train and develop citizens of all ages recognizes the work and sacrifices of DIARA JACKSON  with their Community “SHERO” Leadership Award; and,

WHEREAS, Diara Jackson grew up in Penn Hills and attended Propel Braddock Hills, and as a 9th grader, makes A’s and B’s, takes higher math and will take 12th Grade AP Calculus as she dreams of becoming a Medical Scientist to help people using the power of science and math ; and,   

 

WHEREAS, required to do 30 hours of community service to complete 9th grade, Diara reluctantly volunteered and Nabhi Christian Ministries. She was shy but responded to being asked her opinions and began to blossom after being valued and respected for her work. After completing her 30 hours, she returned to the Church many times to volunteer. She participated in the food distribution, the Church toy drive, dressing up as the Christmas Tree, photo taking for events, dressing again as the Easter Bunny to distribute Easter eggs and take pictures with the children. Feeling safe and comfortable in that environment, Diara became a valued and loyal volunteer and was an intelligent and special member of the community.

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize, commend and congratulate Diara Jackson for receiving the Community “SHERO” Leadership Award from Nabhi Christian Ministries for her extraordinary body of work as an exemplary professional and a dedicated role model in the service of her community.
