WHEREAS, Ruth Sacks was born in Pittsburgh on August 27, 1921; and,

WHEREAS, Ms. Sacks was married to Jimmy Sacks for 42 years and is the proud mother of two children, Hilary and Robin, and grandmother to one grandson, Justin; and,
WHEREAS, an active community member, Ruth was a volunteer for many years for the Women’s American Organization for Rehabilitation through Training; and,
WHEREAS, her career spanned many years as Ms. Sacks worked until she was 83 years old at the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health. Following that she worked at the Carnegie Museum for five years; and,
WHEREAS, an avid fan of Pittsburgh sports, particularly the Pirates, and exercise, Ms. Sacks enjoys golf and dance, participating in Zumba classes throughout her eighties; and,
WHEREAS, everyone who knows Ruth loves her, due to her warm, open-hearted and non-judgmental nature; and,
WHEREAS, on August 27th, 2021, Ruth Sacks celebrated her 100th birthday.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby celebrate Ms. Ruth Sacks on her one hundredth birthday, honors her for her long life and prosperity, and wishes her many more.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare August 27, 2021 to be “Ruth Sacks Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
