Title: WHEREAS, born in Chicago and a graduate of Southern Illinois University, Paul Martino made Pittsburgh his adoptive home when he began a stellar stint with KDKA. Beginning his broadcast career in the early 80's in places like Davenport, Iowa, Quincy and Carbondale, Illinois, and Mobile, Alabama where he won the Press Club Award in 1981 and an Associate Press Award for the Best Documentary, Paul Martino joined KDKA in 1982; and,

WHEREAS, serving as an anchor, a reporter and a Bureau Chief in Westmoreland County, Paul carved out a reputation for being a fearless , versatile journalist, demonstrating investigative prowess, responsible reporting, expertise and talent ; and,

WHEREAS, Paul Martino earned a Golden Quill award in 1996 and numerous AP Awards and was nominated for an Emmy for his "You Paid for It" series which outlined corrupt practices by State lawmakers in Harrisburg. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Wall Street Journal called him the "Sam Donaldson of Pittsburgh", further solidifying that he has been a journalistic institution in Pittsburgh political reporting, bringing accountability to City Hall during 6 mayoral administrations. In addition, he covered the Pittsburgh Penguins' first two Stanley Cup wins and joined the team on the ice in Minnesota and Chicago; and,

WHEREAS, Paul has retired from KDKA but a new chapter is just beginning. Paul will spend more time singing with his oldies group, Paul Martino's All Star Band and is pursuing a new career as a voice over artist He serves on the Board of the local SAG-AFTRA and the Pittsburgh Italian Scholarship Fund and hopes to plan a trip to Italy. And he will make an attempt to improve his golf handicap. He is the proud father of 3 children, hoping for a grandchild soon, and is the husband of the fabulous Joy Balentine Martino; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Paul Martino for a distinguished career in broadcast jou...
