Title: WHEREAS, Dorothy M. Stanley, celebrated 100 years of life on Wednesday, July 14, 2021; and,

WHEREAS, Dorothy M. Stanley, celebrated 100 years of life on Wednesday, July 14, 2021; and,

WHEREAS, Dorothy was born Dorothy Glass in Anniston Alabama on July 14, 1921 and at the age of 11, moved to Brownsville PA. She met Arthur Lee Stanley in 1941 at a Sunday School conference and they wed on her birthday in 1946 in Pittsburgh PA where they moved; and,

WHEREAS, she has lived her entire adult life in the Hill District community of Pittsburgh in the family home located at 2132 Centre Avenue, which is now known as the Thelma Lovette YMCA. She is affectionately known by the Hill District community as "Aunt Dot" and is regarded by many Hill District seniors, leaders, and neighbors as family; and,

WHEREAS, a community servant, Dorothy Stanley is a long-standing member of Monumental Baptist Church, where she has attended for 74 years. She has served as Deaconess for well over 50 years; and,

WHEREAS, Dorothy chaired the summer vacation bible school and for several decades from the early1970's through the 1990's, she coordinated many after school and summer youth programs for Hill District youth, mentoring young women and inspiring young people towards greatness. Dorothy served as President of the senior missionary council, continuously supporting Hill District seniors and coordinating the Hill District Food Bank for more than 20 years; and,

WHEREAS, always humble, always helpful and always supportive, Dorothy is a servant of the Lord. Dorothy has 4 children, 16 grand-children and 18 great-grandchildren and regards her family as her greatest accomplishment and greatest joy; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby celebrate Dorothy Stanley on the milestone of her 100th Birthday and on a life full of love, honor and service; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare July 14, 2021 to be "Dorothy M. Stanley Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
