WHEREAS, in preparation for the Juneteenth Holiday and events, Stop the Violence will be hosting a Juneteenth District 2 (D2) Kickoff Fest on Saturday, June 12^th at Chartiers City Park; and,

WHEREAS, this free outdoors event will include speakers, vendors, bands and national entertainment. Also included will be a Youth Fun Zone, supported by Council President Theresa Kail Smith and organized by Save a Life Today Pittsburgh and UPMC will host a COVID Vaccination Program; and,

WHEREAS, June 18- 20^th, Stop the Violence will host a Pittsburgh Basketball Showcase in honor of Cumberland Posey at the Mellon Park Basketball Courts and June 24-27th the 2021 W PA Juneteenth celebration and Pittsburgh Music Festival will occur in Downtown Pittsburgh; and, 

WHEREAS, the 5^th Annual Juneteenth-Jubilee of Freemen’s reenactment Parade will be held on Saturday, June 26^th and will celebrate the passage of the 13^th and 15^th Amendments ending chattel slavery and granting black voting rights in America; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Stop the Violence for commemorating this historic event; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, June 12^th to be “Juneteenth D2 Kickoff Fest Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
