WHEREAS, Angel Magwood and husband Eddie “Barnz” Magwood opened their second restaurant location, Back to the Foodture II, at Southside Works on Tuesday, May 4th, as it became the first Black owned restaurant to have a space at Southside Works ; and,

WHEREAS, Mrs. Magwood, a former resident of Beltzhoover, and Mr. Magwood, a former Hill District resident, shut down their Pitcairn restaurant business to move to Pittsburgh in a win for the city, as the restaurant had become a national tourists attraction as a highly celebrated vintage burger joint with nostalgic 1980’s paraphernalia; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Magwood both attended and graduated from Brashear high School, where they met and used to fight like siblings until their 10th grade English teacher made them partners on every homework assignment, as they eventually became best friends in school; and, 

 

WHEREAS, the Magwood’s are proud parents of 4 children and grandparents to 2 grandchildren, the inspiration that led them to create a restaurant that would bring families together; and,

 

WHEREAS, the original Back to the Foodture was debuted in Pitcairn in June 2019 in honor of the 1985 movie, “Back to the Future”; and,

 

WHEREAS, Back to the Foodture II offers more than 150 wing flavors, more than 30 burger options, and also houses a museum that features toys, gadgets and other items from the past; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Magwood’s 2 youngest sons are now learning the family business, working on the marketing and bookkeeping for Back to the Foodture II and perfecting recipes, as the family strives to ensure Back to the Foodture II is around for many years to come;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare June 8, 2021 to be “Back to the Foodture II Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
