WHEREAS The Beechview Area Concerned Citizens was formed in 1987; and,

WHEREAS, One of the group's first community projects was to adopt the Beechview Monument Parklet that contained two war memorial monuments, for WWI and WWII. Selling shares of stock for 10 cents to fund a new flagpole; and,
WHEREAS, In the year 2000, a Korean and Vietnam War monument was added to the parklet; and,
WHEREAS, They have maintained the flower beds by planting flowers each year in advance of Memorial Day Services held for the community; and,
WHEREAS, BACC has sponsored and participated in such events as the FoodShare Program, Paint Your Heart Out Program, Mobile Mammography Units, National Night Out Against Crime, sidewalk sales, clean ups, health fairs, Beechview Bundle Up, Kidsfest, Visit with Santa, Christmas Tree lighting and caroling; and,
WHEREAS, For over 30 years, BACC has held monthly meetings, creating an open forum for community members to discuss important issues; and,
WHEREAS, they have acted as an advocate for the community, working in the best interest of residents; and,
WHEREAS, Upon the dedication of a new war memorial honoring those presently serving and the veterans of conflicts and skirmishes since the end of the Vietnam War; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend The Beechview Area Concerned Citizens for their dedication to Beechview; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, May 29th, 2021, to be “Beechview Area Concerned Citizens Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
