WHEREAS, there are over 1.4 million Lions Clubs across the glove serving communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. One such club is the Pittsburgh Grandview Lions Club; and,
Body
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Grandview Lions Club provides free basic eye exams and eyeglasses for low-income residents and raises awareness of eye disease. They also provide hearing aids for low-income individuals through the Center for Hearing and Deaf Services; and,
WHEREAS, in addition, they help sponsor the PA Lions Beacon Lodge Camp, a blind and visually impaired camp for youth and adults, and Leader Dogs For the Blind, American Blind Bowlers Association and W PA School for the Blind; and,
WHEREAS, they reach out to their local community in several ways such as by providing an annual community picnic, held at Olympia Park, and by sponsoring a Trunk or Treat event, which they accomplished as a Drive-Thru Trunk or Treat in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic; and,
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Grandview Lions Club has provided over 160 meals to the senior high rise apartment buildings St. Justin Plaza and Sweetbriar Place; and,
WHEREAS, together with the Hilltop Lions Club, the Pittsburgh Grandview Lions Club hosts pancake dinners and spaghetti dinners to support their endeavors to meet the needs of their communities; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and the thanks the Pittsburgh Grandview Lions Club and Lions Club International for their unselfish dedication to serving those in need; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Tuesday, May 11, 2021 to be “Grandview Lions Club Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
