WHEREAS, since 1985, Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW) has been celebrated the first week of May, beginning the first Sunday of the month in order to honor the everyday work of our public servants and to improve public understanding of and appreciation for their contributions; and,

WHEREAS, during Sunday, May 2nd, until Saturday, May 7th, 2021, we pay tribute to our local government employees and their dedication to civil service. During the past year, our public service employees have risen to the occasion in responding to the coronavirus pandemic and forged through to continue to provide necessary services to our constituents; and,
WHEREAS, government employees serve the public in many invaluable ways, helping to improve the quality of life for our constituents and strive to meet the challenging needs of a diverse population; and,
WHEREAS, public employees deserve to be acknowledged for their efforts to improve customer service and unite government and residents; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and thank the numerous public servants representing the City of Pittsburgh for their dedication and hard work; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare May 2nd through May 7th 2021 to be “Public Service Recognition Week” in the City of Pittsburgh.
