Title: WHEREAS, Commander Karen Dixon started her career with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police on April 4th, 1988; and,

WHEREAS, Commander Karen Dixon started her career with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police on April 4th, 1988; and,

WHEREAS, Commander Karen Dixon has a broad background in many divisions of the bureau including, but not limited to, major crimes, the Chief’s office, the training academy and service in multiple neighborhood zones; and

 

WHEREAS, Karen Dixon’s experience, and her leadership as Lieutenant in the Zone 5 Station, especially in aftermath of the Stanton Heights shootings, lead her to the helm as a  Commander in the Zone 3 Police station in July of 2015; and,

 

WHEREAS, Commander Karen Dixon, appreciating the collective diversity of the Zone 3 neighborhoods, cultivated hundreds of sincere relationships with community leaders and residents alike; and,

 

WHEREAS, having been described as a “guardian for the community and her officers,”  Commander Karen Dixon struck the perfect balance of being a leader that is both community focused and respected by the rank and file officers under her; and,

 

WHEREAS, Commander Karen Dixon, understanding the inherent value of a sociable city, led initiatives addressing the unique needs and challenges presented by a robust nighttime economy, implemented state of the art police policy and practices ensuring Pittsburgh’s place as national leaders within the realm of responsible hospitality; and,

 

WHEREAS, The Commander leaves behind a greatly appreciated history of trust, safety, and open communication with all who call Zone 3 home; and,

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, That Council of the City of Pittsburgh celebrates Commander Dixon’s lengthy and impressive career as a public servant, maintaining safety and harmony throughout Pittsburgh’s Most Livable City; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, March 2nd, 2021 to be “Commander Karen Dixon Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
