Title

WHEREAS, Lisa Scales, President and CEO of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, has been awarded Pittsburgh Magazine’s Pittsburgher of the Year; and,

 

Body

WHEREAS, Ms. Scales, who earned a Juris Doctor degree from Boston University School of Law and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Sciences, began her career as Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Chicago, moved to Pennsylvania to join a Greensburg law firm before joining Just Harvest, and is now the President of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank; and,

WHEREAS, under Lisa’s leadership, the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank partners with local grocers, distribution companies, farmers and community organizations to acquire and distribute food to nearly 400 member agencies, including food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, after-school programs and senior housing sites; and, 

WHEREAS, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Scales and her staff often put in 16-hour workdays, seven days a week, to help people in need; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Scales has held many positions on boards and committees for organizations such as the Community Food Security Coalition and Hunger-Free Pennsylvania. In her current role as president & CEO at the Food Bank, Ms. Scales leads the organization and its network of partner agencies in distributing 2.5 million meals each month to 120,000 people in 11 counties across southwestern Pennsylvania; and,

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate Lisa Scales for being awarded Pittsburgh Magazine’s Pittsburgher of the Year and for her selfless work to those in need; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Thursday, February 11, 2021 to be “Lisa Scales Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
