Title: WHEREAS, Sciulli's Pizza, located at 3404 Fifth Avenue, celebrated, its 40th Anniversary this year amid the COVID-19 Pandemic; and,

Title

WHEREAS, Sciulli’s Pizza, located at 3404 Fifth Avenue, celebrated, its 40th Anniversary this year amid the COVID-19 Pandemic; and,

 

Body

WHEREAS, Sciulli’s relied on college students, university events and hospital happenings for a big part of its business, and amidst the COVID-19 restrictions have continued feeding patrons through takeout and delivery because of the deep ties and love they have for their local community; and,

 

WHEREAS, seventeen-year-old Oriente Sciulli came to the United States from Italy with his family in 1965 and settled in Oakland.  He found work in the steel mills and held other odd jobs, including a year at the D.L. Clark Co. on the North Side; and,

 

WHEREAS, in 1980, brothers Oriente, Antonio and the late Gabrielle Sciulli founded Sciulli’s Pizza, with freshly made dough and Oriente’s homemade sauce recipe.  Today, Oriente and his nephews, Tim and Luciano Sciulli are the co-owners of Sciulli’s Pizza where Tim and Luciano have been working since the age of 6 making pizza boxes and running the cash register; and,

 

WHEREAS, because of their love of community, they have established relationships with its neighbors at UPMC, Carlow University, and The University of Pittsburgh who often times place orders for hundreds of pizzas at a time. Recently, Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joe Haden purchased 600 pizzas from Sciulli’s Pizza for local UPMC employees to support healthcare workers during the pandemic; and,

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate Sciulli’s Pizza for their 40th year in business and thank them for making Pittsburgh their family home since 1965; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, October 27, 2020 to be “Sciulli’s Pizza Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
