WHEREAS, Ann Louisa (Wilds) Favors, the eldest child of Booker T. Wilds, Sr. and Launa Wilds, was born in Pittsburgh on April 2, 1935; and,

WHEREAS, a proud Pittsburgh Public Schools and Schenley High School graduate, Ann went on to dedicate more than 20 years of her life to the students at Hazelwood’s Burgwin Elementary School, where she impacted the lives of countless children; and

 

WHEREAS, Ann married her husband, Embry Favors, Sr., on April 14, 1956, and, over the course of their 42 years together, raised five children who were loved dearly: Debra, Wendell, Cynthia, Carolyn, and Embry, Jr.; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ann was an institution in her community, known not only for the tremendous impact that she had on Greater Hazelwood over her many years of living there, but also for her “Motherwit.” Whether it was simply getting together with friends and neighbors or organizing community events, her hallmark positivity, jovial attitude, and kind spirit lit up rooms, and her eye for all things beautiful and glamorous was well-known; and,

 

WHEREAS, Ann, who had all of the love in the world for her community and her beloved family, passed away on August 18, 2020. Her legacy - which is one of altruism, unselfishness, compassion, and tenderness - will be cherished by her brother, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and all of Greater Hazelwood.

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Ann Favors for her decades-long role as a much-loved and much-appreciated icon of the Greater Hazelwood community; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, October 11, 2020, to be “Ann Favors Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
