WHEREAS, the 25th Annual Fineview Step Challenge, hosted by the Fineview Citizens Council (FCC), will take place on Saturday, October 10; and

WHEREAS, this Challenge ascends Fineview’s hills, streets, and staircases, including Pittsburgh’s steepest set of stairs on Rising Main Avenue, which rises over 371 steps to the height of a 17-story building, and covers 12 public staircases for a total of over 1,600 steps, providing breathtaking views along the way; and
WHEREAS, this Challenge is FCC’s primary fundraiser, raising vital and significant funds for affordable housing, beautification, and community building in the neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, the Challenge was inaugurated by Judith Harvey, Michael Barbush, and Mary Jane Barbush in the mid-1990s and has historically been led by a team of volunteers, including a robust Litter Brigade, which demonstrates how a small community of committed neighbors can come together over many years to highlight their neighborhood’s assets, provide a great adventure for participants, and support their community; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh declares the second Saturday of October, October 10, 2020, “Fineview Step Challenge Day” here in our most livable City of Pittsburgh.
