WHEREAS, Fire Prevention week is October 4 - October 10, 2020 with the National theme “Serve Up fire Safety in the Kitchen!” to educate the public on simple actions they can take to keep themselves, and those around them, safe in the kitchen; and,

 

Body

WHEREAS, fire safety is important for every member of the community and the Firefighters of the City of Pittsburgh are dedicated to educating the public. The Fire Safety Education Officer presents fire safety programs and demonstrations to community groups and schools; and,

 

WHEREAS, since 80% of all fire deaths occur in the home due to smoke inhalation, smoke detectors are the first line of defense against such accidents. The Pittsburgh Fire Bureau will supply and install smoke detectors to any City resident who requests one and encourages everyone to test your smoke detectors regularly; and, 

 

WHEREAS, mere seconds can mean the difference between a safe escape and a tragedy, so take some time every October during Fire Prevention Week to review steps you and your loved ones can take to stay safe in case of a fire; and,

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire for their commitment to serving their fellow residents and we encourage the citizens of Pittsburgh to participate in fire prevention activities at home, work and school; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh declares the week of October 4 through 10, 2020, to be “Fire Prevention Week” in the City of Pittsburgh.
