Title: WHEREAS, Volunteers who have stepped out of their familiar environments to meet needs not otherwise met through their service are a fundamental part of the community. Nabhi Christian Ministries, whose mission is to enhance impoverished communities by creating health environments that mentor, train and develop citizens of all ages recognizes the work and sacrifices of Richard A. Stewart, Jr. with their Lifetime Achievement Award for Exemplary Public Service; and,

WHEREAS, born, raised and educated in Pittsburgh, Richard A. Stewart, Jr. spent 30 years in law enforcement as an Allegheny County Jail Corrections Officer, with the Pittsburgh Police Department and the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office where he retired in 2005 as a Deputy Commander and as the highest ranking African American in the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Department in its 200 year history; and,

 

WHEREAS, outside of law enforcement, Richard Stewart, Jr. serves as the Pittsburgh Branch President of the NAACP. He is a founding member of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, a Board Member or Committee Member of Freedom Unlimited, B-Pep, St. Benedict the Moor Church, St. Paul Cathedral, University of Pittsburgh African Heritage Classroom and a host of other law enforcement, fraternal and civic organizations and initiatives; and,

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize , commend and congratulate Richard A. Stewart, Jr. for receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award for Exemplary Public Service from Nabhi Christian Ministries for his extraordinary body of work as an outstanding professional and a dedicated role model in the service of his community.
