WHEREAS, Mr. Bob Allen knew he would be reporting the news in his early 20s when his mother watched a reporter on KDKA and told him “you can do that”; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Allen graduated from Langley High School and attended Penn State University and Point Park College. He began his broadcasting career in 1979 at the Beaver Falls radio station WBVP; and,
WHEREAS, he then worked at WKBN radio in Youngstown before transitioning to his first television job with WYTV, also in Youngstown. He has since worked at TV stations in Memphis, Louisville, Kentucky and Toledo Ohio. Most recently, Bob spent three years as a general assignment reporter and part-time anchor at the NBC affiliate in Kansas City; and,
WHEREAS, in January, 2000, he joined KDKA-TV as a General Assignment Reporter in his hometown of the City of Pittsburgh, a goal he set for himself “many years ago”; and,
WHEREAS, since working with KDKA-TV, Mr. Allen has covered everything from weather to championship celebrations and feature stories all over Southwestern Pennsylvania. He said one of his proudest accomplishments was winning awards with Photographer Rob Hopson; and,
WHEREAS, after 20 great years, Bob Allen retired from KDKA on March 27, 2020; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate Mr. Bob Allen on his retirement and thank him for his many years of service to the City of Pittsburgh; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare June 9, 2020 to be “Mr. Bob Allen Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
