WHEREAS, Community Day School is an independent , co-ed Jewish Day School for students in Early Childhood through Grade 8, distinguished by an exceptional academic program rooted in Jewish values that inspires children to become their best selves; and,
WHEREAS, the 2020 Graduating Class of Community Day School consists of 25 students who began their Jewish Day School journey together in Kindergarten in 2012. Over the past 9 years, the group has become accomplished leaders, compassionate up standers and responsible citizens; and,
WHEREAS, the CDS Class of 2020 includes athletes and artists, writers and inventors, math lovers and science whizzes, musicians and performers, leaders and team players. They participate and lead Tefillah Council and Student Council, lead Kabbalat Shabbat, celebrations, food drives, fundraising for breast cancer research, helping Israeli teens and being role models for younger students. They participated in sports, yearbook, Odyssey of the Mind, musical, Keeping Tabs, drum ensemble, science fair, student ambassadors , band and community service ;and,
WHEREAS, rounding gout and complimenting their CDS Graduation would have been a class trip to Israel, a long anticipated rite of passage and trip of a lifetime. As a response to the loss of this trip because of the worldwide Pandemic, the faculty and staff of Community Day School will conduct a virtual celebration of the CDS Class of 2020 on May 22, 2020; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend the 25 individual students of the 2020 graduating class of Community Day School for their qualities and achievements that make all of them so special and congratulates them as they receive their diplomas from CDS and head to high school; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, May 22, 2020, to be “COMMUNITY DAY SCHOOL CLASS OF 2020 DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.
