Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Pittsburgh Allderdice High School for its consistent and unwavering emphasis on academics, rigor and diversity in education and congratulates the students who have achieved National Merit Scholar designations; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, February 25, 2020, to be "ALLDERDICE NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLAR DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.

Body

WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Allderdice High School, the largest of the Pittsburgh Public Schools’ urban high schools, has drawn students from nine diverse communities and offers academic programs at all levels, complemented by a full range of interscholastic, intramural and co-curricular clubs; and,

 

WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Allderdice High School has a proud history, with a long tradition of excellence and a distinguished record of being amongst the top high schools in the country, having consistently secured Middle States Association accreditation and the Blue Ribbon Award of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education; and,   

 

WHEREAS, in the 2019-2020 school year, there were 2 National Merit Semi-Finalists. Only 1% of high school students achieve this recognition based on their SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Tests. In addition, there were 15 National Merit Commended Students who are being recognized as one of the 34,000 students recognized who have shown exceptional academic promise; and,

 

WHEREAS, National Merit Scholar Semi-Finalists from Allderdice are Scott Sobel and Sam Zlotnikov; and,

 

WHEREAS, Letters of Commendation were awarded to Oliver Daugherty Long, Charles Forster, Audrey Leong, James Rankin, Michal Hajlasz, Aaron Berger, David Missry, Laura Brodkey, Emma Waldron, James Rabuzzi, Sean Whitney, Jacob Allen, Levin Gerber, Will Ganger and Dylan Olmstead
