Title

Resolution authorizing the City of Pittsburgh to enter into a Preservation Agreement with the New Hazlett Theater.

Body

WHEREAS, in 2017, the City signed a lease agreement with the New Hazlett Theater for a portion of the City facility known as the Carnegie Free Library of Allegheny and associated property located at 6 Allegheny Square East, in the 22nd Ward of the City of Pittsburgh, for a period of twenty-nine (29) years.

WHEREAS, New Hazlett Theater subsequently applied for and was awarded funds in the amount of a One Hundred Thousand Dollar ($100,000) grant from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission to repair the front steps of the New Hazlett Theater.  This gift enabled the New Hazlett Theater to receive matching funds of One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000) from the Allegheny Regional Asset District.

WHEREAS, the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission requires an agreement to demonstrate to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania that their property will be preserved and protected before dispersing funds to New Hazlett Theater.

WHEREAS, the New Hazlett Theater requested the City agree to the Preservation Agreement.

WHEREAS, the City is willing to agree to the Preservation Agreement.

THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Council of the City of Pittsburgh as follows:

Section 1.                     Authorizes the City of Pittsburgh to enter into a Preservation Agreement with the New Hazlett Theater (now leasing a City-owned building) for the purpose of demonstrating to the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, which has offered the New Hazlett Theater a $100,000 grant, that the property will be preserved and maintained for fifteen years.
