Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby extend heartiest congratulations to Mrs. Anna Turner Murchison on a life full of love, honor and service with sincere best wishes for a joyful 100th birthday celebration; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare February 4th to be "Mrs. Anna Turner Murchison Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Mrs. Anna Turner Murchison has demonstrated faithful service to God, Country, Community and family; and,

 

WHEREAS, since 1967, Mrs. Anna Turner Murchison has been an outstanding Deaconess and Deaconess Emeritus at the Metropolitan Baptist Church, one of the oldest Black Baptist Churches in Western Pennsylvania; and,

 

WHEREAS, Deaconess Murchison has served the Church in a variety of leadership roles and service functions including representation at the Pennsylvania State Baptist Convention, the Allegheny Union Baptist Association, and Church Women United; and,

 

WHEREAS, Deaconess Murchison served as President of the Deaconess Board and held membership in the Church’s General Missionary Society for 27 years, as well as served  in an advisory capacity thereafter, and held long-standing membership in the Church’s Women’s Ministry; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Murchison acquired and maintained a license in  Cosmetology in the Commonwealth, working in the field and extending the benefits of her education and training in volunteer service to her community by providing classes, workshops and ministry to young girls and women, including dedicated programs for Unwed Mothers and Female Offenders; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Murchison also demonstrated faithfulness in public service through employment with the federal government for 11 years and served as Secretary of a District of Columbia American Legion Women’s Auxiliary; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Murchison provided, with her husband of 63 years, Willie J. Murchison, highly regarded participation, encouragement and support to the Central Northside and Mexican War Streets neighborhood councils; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Murchison has lived an exemplary Christian life as wife of Willie J., and continues to be a most gracious, loving and nurturing mother of Ramona and William, grandmother of ten, great grandmother of nine, and Godmother of three children;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby extend heartiest congratulations to Mrs. Anna Turner Murchison on a life full of love, honor and service with sincere best wishes for a joyful 100th birthday celebration;

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare February 4th to be “Mrs. Anna Turner Murchison Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
