Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby thank Darlene Harris for her service to the residents of the City of Pittsburgh; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Monday, December 30, 2019 to be "Darlene Harris Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Darlene Harris is a life-long resident of the North Side neighborhood of Pittsburgh, a true community activist, and has served over 12 years as the Councilwoman of District 1; and,

 

WHEREAS, Darlene helped create the North Side Public Safety Council and has served statewide on the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency. She served on numerous boards, including the Northside Community Development Fund and was a founding member and Past President of the Spring Hill Civic League, and a Founding Member of the North Side Leadership Conference; and,

 

WHEREAS, her commitment to the community has earned her numerous awards and recognitions, including, but not limited to, the Pennsylvania Governor’s Award, PA Federation of Democratic Women Outstanding Elected Democratic Woman Award, and Pittsburgh Farmer’s Market Appreciation for Hard Work and Service; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Harris is a proven leader serving as past President of the Pittsburgh Public School Board, fighting for quality education, past Council President and has served as the 26th Ward Democratic Chairwoman for over a decade; and, 

 

WHEREAS, Councilwoman Harris has had many notable legislative achievements on City Council including the creation of a Free Spay & Neuter Program, the co-sponsored Billboard Tax legislation, and Council’s legislation that dedicated parking tax revenue towards the City’s pension fund, preventing a State takeover; and,

 

WHEREAS, Darlene is the proud mother of three children and proud grandmother of five grandchildren and a proud animal lover. She credits her ability to be a strong community leader and person to her faith and her husband John, who has been her greatest supporter; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby thank Darlene Harris for her service to the residents of the City of Pittsburgh; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Monday, December 30, 2019 to be “Darlene Harris Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
