Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and honor the important work of the Pittsburgh Film Office, and declare Saturday, February 8, 2020, to be Pittsburgh Film Office Day in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Film Office is a non-profit organization that promotes the City of Pittsburgh and the greater southwestern Pennsylvanian region as an excellent location for movie, television, and commercial production; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Film Office celebrates its 30th Anniversary in 2020, since its inception in 1990, the Pittsburgh Film Office has assisted with 185 feature films and television productions filmed in southwestern Pennsylvania, that generated an economic impact of more than $1.5 billion for the region; and,

 

WHEREAS, in 2007, the Pittsburgh Film Office played an important role in supporting the Pennsylvania Film Tax Credit, a program that allows a 25% tax credit to productions that spend at least 60% of the production budget in the Commonwealth; and,

 

WHEREAS, in 2019, three feature films and two television series were filmed in the city/region, adding more than $150 million into the regional economy; and,

 

WHEREAS, the 20th annual Academy Awards®-themed benefit the NETFLIX Presents Lights! Glamour! Action ® Sponsored by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and McKnight Realty Partners will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2020, at The Pennsylvanian, to celebrate another outstanding year of the film industry in our region and support the mission of the Pittsburgh Film Office to market and promote the Pittsburgh region that leads to a future with more family sustaining careers in our film industry; and,

 

WHEREAS, the 2020 Academy Awards®-themed fundraising gala has already surpassed all previous events in net funds for the organization in its history and ensures continued economic growth in our region; and,
