Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Pitaland; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, December 7th, 2019, to be "Pitaland Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Pitaland Mediterranean Bakery was originally opened in 1969; and,

 

WHEREAS, Joe Chahine and his wife Jocelyne began working at Joe’s brother’s bakery in 1974 when the outbreak of the Lebanese Civil War prevented the honeymooning couple from returning home; and, 

 

WHEREAS, Joe and Jocelyne’s four children Danny, Donna, Aleen, and Joey now help run the business; and,

 

WHEREAS, Pitaland participates in area farmers’ markets, wholesales products for local restaurants and food trucks, and has expanded to include a fully functioning kitchen, café, and grocery store; and, 

 

WHEREAS, Pitaland has teamed up with Light of Life Rescue Mission to cook homemade lunches for members of the transitional housing non-profit; and,

 

WHEREAS, for 50 years Pitaland has been widely loved in Brookline and across the city,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Pitaland; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, December 7th, 2019, to be “Pitaland Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
