Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare November 24, 2019 to be "Northside Church of God Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Northside Church of God, located at 1822 Chateau Street in the Manchester section of the Northside, has served the community in ministry for ninety-five years during the period 1924-2019; and,

WHEREAS, the Northside Church of God began on the Southside under the leadership of the late Bishop Garfield Byrd, who with his wife Sister Everlena Byrd began a house service, having prayer from house to house with three members establishing the church: Sister James, Sister Banks and Sister Hearns; and,

WHEREAS, on December 25, 1936, Bishop Byrd and the church moved to 1119 Beaver Avenue into a newly erected church, where they continued to progress under the leadership of Bishop Garfield Byrd until his passing in 1938, as the late Bishop Judge Hamilton Elder I.J. James assumed the pastoral duties in June 1938 and was succeeded by the late Bishop T.W. Wimberly, followed by the late Bishop W.L. Jones, Dr. N.S. Marcelle and then by Bishop J. B. Cox, Sr; and,

WHEREAS, the Northside Church of God, at its present location, was purchased in 1961 under the pastoral leadership of the late Bishop Clarence Denson's administration until April 1965. Bishop N. S. Marcelle returned for a second term until his passing in 1968 and was succeeded by Rev. Eugene Thorpe as pastor until 1973; and,

WHEREAS, the Northside Church of God, was without a pastor for short period of time but continued to serve the community in ministry until Bishop Farley Ridout was appointed pastor in May of 1973 and served for thirty-four years. During his tenure, he not only served as Pastor but also the District Overseer; and,

WHEREAS, on March 6, 2009, District Overseer, Bishop Edward Kendeall and State Administrative Bishop, Rodney Jeffords appointed Reverend Yvonne Burns Interim Pastor of the Northside Church of God and was voted in as the permanent pastor on September 24, 2010; and,
